Body Bacteria Clothes: Chic or Creepy?
Chic presents this Monday Musing, hot off the heels of Halloween. Is Austrian designer Sonja Bäumel’s latest project, “(In)visible Membranes: Life on the Human Body and its Design Application” chic in an edgy way? Or creepy in a, well, creepy way? Bäumel’s project is on display at Design Academy Eindhoven and explores how the bacteria on our skin can be reworked to create fabric. We have to give Bäumel major innovation props by fusing fashion with science in a really unusual way. The notion is a little Silence of the Lambs…Nevertheless, we are intrigued!
Hm. Intriguing? Yes. Creepy? Yes. I can see these going over pretty well on Halloween, but other than that.. not too sure if anyone could rock this look. Maybe Courtney Love?
