We’re all trying (usually in vain) to cut back on the splurges these days. (We can’t blame ourselves for Gilt Groupe’s offering of Jil Sander’s neon collection yesterday.) Luckily, we’ve found something to pinch those pennies–literally. This Revol Design coin bank is far superior to an average piggy, and who knows? Maybe by the time it’s full, we’ll have enough for some new Jil Sander creations…

Who better to star in Chanel’s pre-fall Paris-Moscou collection campaign than the ultimate Russian beauty herself, Sasha Pivovarova? The more-is-more aesthetic has Chic swooning. Click through for a closer look at that divine little bag… (more…)

The second weekend of summer (if you count Memorial Day as the season’s kickoff, as we do) lies just hours away, and if you’re heading back to the Hamptons, here’s another stop for vous. The Madewell store at 20 Newton Lane in Easthampton just opened this week, and it will be giving away treats tomorrow and Sunday to lure shoppers. (Like you need an excuse.) The goody bag? A Madewell Hamptons Map tote (with a “guide to the Hamptons, the Madewell way”) will include Shady-Day Sunscreen wipes, a June Madewell newsletter, and a 15% off discount to the new store.

If you’ve noticed the staff of SoHo favorite Balthazar and fellow Keith McNally restaurant Pravda looking decidedly chicer lately, you’re on to something. Etiqueta Negra, the gorgeous Argentinian boutique, has started outfitting the restaurant staff in their signature brand of classic but luxurious basics like lizard belts and shoes, formal pants and blazers and Italian dress shirts.

Two of Chic’s favorite things. Kristin Davis looked lovely last night in a studded and feathered creation by Oscar de la Renta at the Chocolat au Vin benefit for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Basic little black dress it ain’t–and we’re in love.

Chic Report is gearing up to tonight’s big Burberry celebration by shopping our favorite pieces by the iconic British brand. From not-so-classic trenches to hard-edged studded pieces, we could (and do!) plan our whole dream wardrobe around Chris Bailey’s creations. Clockwise from top left: Burberry pyramid stud watch, $805; Burberry large link bracelet, $450; Burberry dégradé silk cardigan, $375; Burberry t-bar jelly sandals, $125; Burberry satin city shorts, $175 (was $350); Burberry Prorsum silk ombré trench, $3,595; Burberry Prorsum floral embroidered lace skirt, $1,116 (was $1,595); all at net-a-porter.com.

This just might become any man’s new First Class compartment dream bag. Dior Homme is launching a new line of men’s sacs called DH1 and this wonder is made of exceptionally soft leather and comes with amazing pocket compartments. The large duffel above retails for $1780.

The entire world continues to be mesmerized by Michelle Obama and her unique style, and Chic Report is no exception. In fact, the whole team over here at The Daily is enamored..resulting in 100 Days of Style, the collector’s issue magazine that tracks, look by look, her chicest sartorial choices. “I would say that she is the most true to herself and she’s got the most personal style, certainly in our opinion, which is why we created this beautiful book dedicated to her style,” said our own editrix extraordinaire, Brandusa Niro. “It’s just amazing because First Ladies usually play it very safe…She sticks to the woman she was before becoming First Lady.” Love her like we do? Anyone, even international readers, can pick up their copy here…

Interview’s Glenn O’Brien sits down with Biba icon Barbara Hulanicki to discuss her path from “Biba’s Postal Boutique” all the way up to her line for high street giant Topshop. Our favorite moment? Her big break: “We did quite a few pieces and we were selling something like 200 of each one and we weren’t really making any money. It was like a nightmare to pack and ship, and we had to do it ourselves, and we were about to give up. And then the fashion editor of The [Daily] Mirror called me and she said, “I want a dress.. I want it for 25 shillings.” So I went to see her and I said, “Okay, let’s go dress for 25 shillings,” thinking it wasn’t going to work. I’ll never forget going home and Fitz [Stephen Fitz-Simon, Hulanicki's husband] says, “What a fucking price to do a dress without knowing anything!” And then we sold 17,000 of them.”

Ok, so this high-class trash can won’t turn your discarded junk into gold…but we’ll certainly enjoy the act of ditching it much more. Designed by–who else?–Paul Smith, this five-foot tall rubbish bin (oh, how we love a Brit turn of phrase) will be installed for public use in London’s Covent Garden and Holland Park.
