A Holiday Lovefest with Our Favorite Francisco!

withfirel.jpg

It’s an open secret that Chic Report adores Francisco Costa, women’s creative director of Calvin Klein Collection. Naturally, we had to catch up with him pre-Turkey.

What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
“For the first time ever, I will be travelling that day.”

How do you like your turkey prepared?
“I usually brine it overnight with lots of lemon, orange juice, ginger root, sea salt, and water.”

What’s your favorite holiday ritual?
“To light a toasty fire.”

What are you gifting this holiday season?
“I’m not sure yet, but I love to have friends over for a cozy evening at home.”

And equally important–what are you eyeing for yourself?
“To re-do my garden at home in Bellport this spring.”

Colin Cowie Talks About All That Dubai Dazzle

colin-dubai.jpg

We’ve all heard about the extravagant opening party for the Atlantis resort in Dubai last week, attended by the likes of Charlize Theron, Mary-Kate Olsen, Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson, Robert DeNiro, Michael Jordan, Mischa Barton, Janet Jackson, Jade Jagger, and Kylie Minogue—who performed. Now, meet the man behind the magic: party planner extraordinaire Colin Cowie. Chic Report got to chat with Cowie about the three-day extravaganza, which included a welcome event Wednesday, a grand soirée Thrusday, and an 11 million liter aquarium and four-restaurant tasting on Friday. “After that I ended up at some prince’s house until 8 in the morning,” Cowie laughed. “Dubai rocks!”

How did you go about starting the planning for the party?
“It was amazing, unbelievable, huge, a mega success, larger than life—so, now you know how I feel about it! One year ago this week I visited Dubai and there was not a palm tree in sight! I saw extraordinary property, and I was very inspired. It was important to bring the myth of Atlantis alive. This was a big one!”

Your biggest party so far?
“It’s up there.”

So not the biggest?
“I can’t talk about that!”

Did you enjoy yourself at the party or were you working the whole time?
“I have an amazing staff. I got to be seated throughout the dinner spectacle and there was not a bad seat in the house! It was sensory overload from beginning to end.”

Guiltless Indulgence for Your Face

test-red-front-2.jpg

Ray-Ban Wayfarers are so ubiquitous that they can be hard to rock without looking like an Olsen clone or Williamsburg resident. But New York City artist Chris Mendoza’s upcoming Pop Art-y take on the Wayfarer gives it renewed cred. The artist will be at Sunglass Hut’s SoHo location in NYC hand-painting 100 pairs of Wayfarers on Black Friday. Twenty-five percent of proceeds will benefit Give the Gift of Sight, a charity that provides glasses for those who can’t afford them.

A Moment with: America’s Next Top Model Winner McKey Sullivan

 antm.JPG

The latest beauty to be crowned America’s Next Top Model McKey Sullivan, 20, says the first thing she wants to do when she gets home to Lake Forest, Illinois, is enjoy an egg, spinach, and cheese bagel. She has an Ultimate Fighter boyfriend (she helps him train!) and veritable menagerie of pets waiting to welcome her–but before she left the city after her triumphant week, the lovely sat down with Chic Report and Seventeen editor in chief Ann Shoket at the Hearst cafeteria for a lunch of veggie burgers and chocolate chip cookies.

Why did you want to try out for the show?
“I picked up my dog from the shaggy dog shop, and the groomers were like, ‘My niece is trying out for the show, and you have to try out for it! Just go, you look exactly like a model, you’ll do so well.’ So my boyfriend and I went down to the city for the tryout. That was for cycle 9, and I didn’t make it. I didn’t even make it to the semifinals, but I filed it in the back of my head, and thought, Maybe I’ll try again. Earlier this year, I thought, ‘Okay, I’m going to turn 20, I’m going to be way too old to model,’ and I refuse to be the little old granny that’s sitting there like, ‘Oh, back in the day, I could have been a model, I was so beautiful!’ So I decided that I was going to try modeling one more time. I decided that if I didn’t make it on the show, I was going to come out to New York and see if I could get signed with an agency–and if not, I was going to be done. That’s it, leave it behind!”

But you made it.
“I did!”

What would you do if you weren’t modeling?
“I have a series of backup plans. Once I’m done modeling, I would like to return to school and hopefully make it into med school. I want to be a neonatal surgeon, but med school is extremely hard to get into, it’s very prestigious, so my backup plan is to go to law school. And if I get into med school, I might do med and law, who knows? It’s only two years more, and it like triples your salary.”
