It Vibrates! It Extends!

lancomevibratingmascaradone.jpg

Forget your old mascara–and ditch the traditional method of application–and allow Lancôme to transform your lashes. Tuesday afternoon, the brand hosted its first-ever blogger lunch to introduce beauty web mavens to the Ôscillation vibrating mascara. Jean-Louis Guéret, the designer of all Lancôme mascaras, presided over the tip-heavy lunch. “It’s a very special formula that creates very thin, very even coating. It’s in harmony with the oscillation so you can spread the product over 360 degrees of the lashes,” he explained. Three models demonstrated the application ”gesture”–a slow, non-shaking drag. “You really can reach the look of false lashes!” exclaimed Guéret. “Now you’re going to glide, to surf on your lashes!”

While other vibrating products such as the toothbrush and razor undulate visibly, the mascara wand grabs the lashes instead of moving them laterally. And never fear–the battery will outlast the mascara, so there’s no need to replace a dead wand.

While the national launch is happening in November, Lancôme is having a one day sale TOMORROW! So if you’re sold, find your way to select Lancôme counters and get yours.

THE DETAILS: $34, Available at all Lancôme counters, Lancôme boutiques and lancome-usa.com in November.

Caftan Chic

mayerparty.jpg

Jenny Galluzzo (above center) celebrated the launch of her new line Mayer on Saturday night at Maison 24 in Bridgehampton, with guests including Shoshanna Gruss, Charlotte Ronson, Rebekah and Colin McCabe and Leslie Fremar. Chic Report got the dish from the designer about her vintage-inspired line. Galluzzo’s collection is based on a gift from her grandmother–caftans from around the world.

The line is named after your grandmother’s gift of vintage clothes. What did she instill in you, fashion-wise, that made you a designer?

My grandmother traveled to the far corners of the world seeking adventure. She brought back treasures from her travels and she never threw anything away. Going through her closet is like shopping in the best vintage store you can imagine. She taught me to be fearless, independent and a pack rat. (more…)

Here’s to an Endless Summer!

iconcocktails.jpg

It’s still summery enough to imbibe strictly al fresco. Chef Michael Wurster treated a select set to delicious nibbles at Icon Restaurant’s Courtyard nestled in the W Hotel – The Court last night. But it’s the tart champagne-filled cocktails that caught Chicaholic’s attention (natch) and, as always, we must share the wealth. Should you need an alternative to your usual nightcap, enjoy these.

1 oz. Grey Goose Orange

1/2 oz. Navan (vanilla cognac brandy imported from France)

2 dashes champagne

Splash of orange juice

Garnish with a slice of orange

When You Are Engulfed in Short Stories

engulfedsedaris.jpg

It’s hardly unusual that we’re die-hard David Sedaris junkies, but lest you think we’re strictly garment-focused, we had to give a shout-out to his latest side-splitter. In When You Are Engulfed in Flames, the classic humorist deals with what might be humdrum, everyday events. His vignettes describing everything from vintage clothing to an awkward airplane situation–this hysterical one is a Chic Report fave–we can’t help but mutter, “So true!”

Armani Enters the Bullfighting Ring

cayetanoriverarobertaarmani.jpg

Giorgio Armani is having a delightfully productive summer. First, he has created a scholarship for a master’s program. Now, we’ve learned that he designed a costume for famed bullfighter Cayetano Rivera Ordoñez, for the feverish LII ‘Corrida Goyesca, taking place on September 6 in Ronda, Spain. Cayetano’s suit includes a jacket, trousers and cloak in techno satin in a signature Armani greige. The three pieces are embroidered with sequins, glitter stones and thread, all matching the color of the primary fabric. Instrestingly enough, the Ordoñez family has a very strong history of costume courtship. Years ago, none other that Pablo Picasso designed the same costume for Cayetano’s grandfather, Antonio Ordoñez.

Birds of a Feather

rubinresort08models.jpg

Better late than never. Rubin Singer presented his resort collection to select editors Tuesday afternoon at a gorgeous 15,000 sq. foot apartment. We fell in love with the flowy dresses and were stunned at how two patterns could created such diverse design shapes. “All my prints are developed by me and the collection is based on birds of heat, basically tropical and wild birds. They’re also based on fauna I researched, developed and then calibrated through different color waves. I mixed in lizard skin to counterbalance the chiffon and the softness of everything,” explained the designer. “My clothes aren’t geared to a specific girl. My woman demands two things–seriousness and decadence, two things I don’t think are bound by age or culture or geography, they’re more about the makeup of one’s self.”
