Double Whammy of Hotness

davidinposhok.jpg

When you are one part of the most beautiful husband and wife team ever to cross the Atlantic, there’s virtually no way you can go wrong! You can pose naked. You can shamelessly promote your spouse…and still, you’re on top. It’s a class act all the way. Vicki B already claimed she sleeps naked, so naturally, David’s all over it! Becks was spotted wearing proof in a T-shirt as he arrived in Brazil yesterday to open the “David Beckham World Of Sport” soccer center. If you want in, the shirts are available at Marc’s Bleecker street store for $35 a pop.

Fashionable Antiques

The Young Collectors’ Night for the Winter Antiques Show at the Park Avenue Armory on Thursday gathered friends and supporters (though not committee members Amanda Hearst, Dabney Mercer, Tinsley Mortimer, and Fabiola Beracasa) to bid on gorgeous antiques and jewelry as well as designer bags, gift baskets, and more in the silent auction room–all of which benefited The East Side House Settlement. Chic Report found designers (and evening sponsors) Mark Badgley and James Mischka there, looking calm and composed despite their fashion show being only days away.

“We were asked to participate in this several months ago and we were delighted to be involved; we think it’s a great charity,” explained Badgley, who, along with Mischka, clothed co-chairs Genevieve Wheeler Brown, Elizabeth Meigher, Tatiana Papanicolau, and guests Lily Maddock, Zibby Right, Caroline Cummings, and Nicole Hanley, and also donated five items to the silent auction. And do they have their eye on any particular antiques? “Well, James and I just bought this horse farm in Kentucky, and there’s not a stick of furniture in it,” Badgley laughed. “So we’ll definitely be looking.”

As far as Fashion Week is concerned, Badgley remarked, “We have mountains to move. But tonight gives us a great excuse to be out!”

Friday morning marked the grand reopening of Bloomingdale’s Metro level subway entrance and the unveiling of the department store’s newly expanded men’s store–No. 59 Metro. The timing is perfect as shoppers won’t even have to step outside to enter the retail mecca. “Bloomingdale’s is the epicenter of New York and it has been for 92 years,” said Howard H. Roberts, president of the MTA New York City Transit. “I shop here but my wife shops here way more than I do, and this made things a little more convenient.”

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Agent Provocateur is launching the third installment of its ad campaign featuring French actress Vahina Giocante in a Parisian love story.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Past the line of gawking girls outside Henri Bendel staring at Ken Paves through the window, guests celebrated the launch of Kelli Delaney’s redesigned Members Only jackets, bringing the ’80s-find back into the mainstream. The former magazine editor is the new creative director of the brand and just couldn’t get enough of the look. “It’s for the girl who leaves her office on Madison Avenue and stops in here to change, gets some extensions, and is good to go! I was so lucky to get a brand with such authenticity. You have the hipsters on the LES wearing vintage jackets and the cool girls like the one from Juno,” she explained. “It’s the irreverent cool factor that’s so necessary for a brand.” After a budding friendship started between the hair designer and Delaney, it seemed obvious to bring Paves’s new Hairdo extensions to the party as well, so guests could rock the new jacket look with some longer locks. Paves loved the coats so much he snuck out with two–the bomber and trench coat–for Eva Longoria, while Katrina Bowden and Laura Bell Bundy played dress-up at the event.

Banana Republic, in celebration of its role as global lead sponsor of The New Museum’s upcoming Elizabeth Peyton exhibition, hosted a gallery viewing and editors’ dinner on the 7th floor of the chic Bowery space Tuesday night. Chic Report caught up with BR president Jack Calhoun and newbie creative director Simon Kneen (it’s only his second week on the job!)

“We thought since editors are running around everywhere, why not have an event somewhere they’d actually like to be,” explained Calhoun of the choice of venue. “This space is so wonderful,” added Kneen, “and it was time for something like this to open up downtown.” And which direction is the brand moving in creatively? “I think the direction things are going in is great,” said Kneen. “I have this wonderful team of 65 designers, and there are so many exciting and new projects planned for 2008–it’s our 30th anniversary.”

What’s most interesting, perhaps, is what BR looks for in their new hires. “Simon met what seems to be the most stringent requirement for our designers,” laughed Calhoun. “He’s British.”

Dior’s New Homme

chris_jones1.jpg

Get ready to swoon on Sunday at Kris Van Assche’s first Dior Homme runway show, because Chris Jones is walking. Chic Report spoke with the Fusion model before the masses and got a few fun details about this up-and-coming mannequin. Thank us later.

What’s your favorite haunt in Paris so far?
I have been staying in a quaint hotel in charming Montmartre. There are as many cafes on the street as there are Starbucks on Fifth Ave. I was flown out here just for the Dior Homme show through Fusion in New York. I only have to work one day! This allows me beaucoup free time to explore Paris and all its sights. The best part of being here is living in an atmosphere that’s classy, sophisticated, and fashionable!

What’s your favorite show you’ve walked in and why?
My favorite show I’ve walked in so far is Satoro Tanaka’s “Politely” in Tokyo. Going to Japan was my first time traveling abroad for modeling. Add that excitement to Tanaka’s production of his show, and you get a pure adrenaline rush. I’m talking lasers, heart thumpin’ bass, and some crucial sleek outfits. Doesn’t get better than that! Though after the Dior show I might have a new favorite.

You’re walking in Dior Homme! How do you feel?
Doing the Dior show really gives me a sense of accomplishment. It gives me confirmation that I’m becoming a success. The confidence I will gain from participating in a show of this magnitude will be invaluable. Ask me even one year ago, and I never would never have seen this coming.

You were part of the Janice Dickinson agency…any crazy stories from that experience?
How did you know I was part of the Janice Dickinson Agency!? Ha ha! I like to keep the reality TV modeling world and my REAL modeling world separate. I’m not ashamed of it though because it jump-started my interest in modeling. Being a part of the “JDMA” is loads of fun. Personally, Janice is an absolute pleasure to be around because she consistently keeps me laughing.

What are your future plans?
Future plans include moving into my new digs in New York, getting some crucial tears in my book, traveling the world, and walking in the most prestigious shows.

Who’s the ideal designer you’d want to walk for?
I wish Mugatu was an actual designer because he’s simply amazing. For God’s sakes, he invented the piano necktie!

Miss Sixty’s Psychedelic Runway

misssixtyrunwayok.jpg

Expect to feel the groove this Fashion Week. When Miss Sixty presents its Fall 2008 collection as part of New York Fashion Week on Sunday, February 3 at 8 p.m., get ready for peace, love, and happiness. This season Miss Sixty has collaborated with world-famous rock ‘n’ roll poster artist Bob Masse (Michael Brown at Lot71 will design the set). This vintage-inspired installation will include an adaptation of Masse’s famous commemorative Janis Joplin poster enlarged to cover the entire runway; pieces will be further enhanced by the application of UV paint, bringing a feeling of the ’60s hippie movement to the 21st century.

Last season Hilary Swank, Mischa Barton, and Demi Moore sat runway-side and we can’t wait to see who will rock out to this psychedelic art movement atmosphere this season. Victoria Bartlett will be styling once again; she previously partnered with Miss Sixty to style the Spring 2008 show and will also work on the Spring/Summer 2008 advertising campaign. Following the show, Miss Sixty will host an intimate dinner at Socialista.

A Tree, A Tee

tonicschooltok.jpg

As the holiday season came and went, many gifts were donations from companies in editor’s names. If you haven’t had enough of the warm feeling of being a do-gooder, here’s the tee-shirt to buy. Tonic donates 40 percent of their profits to those in need, and these limited-edition shirts will help build schools in India, provide bed nets to prevent malaria in Africa, safe drinking water in Nepal, and new trees to offset emissions. Tara Subkoff, the first of four designers working with the company, created the above “School Tee”–with each purchase of the $45 shirt, three children in India are educated for one year. Watch the site www.tonicgen.com to see just how much influence the sales create.

Quote of the Week: Tyson Beckford’s Powerful Rolodex

tysonbeckford.jpg

Tyson Beckford at the Make Me a Supermodel launch event:
“What’s so great about me is I can call Naomi Campbell and be like ‘Yo Naomi, we need you to teach these girls how to walk.’ I don’t think anybody else in fashion can do that without her charging you a brick. I can do that because I’m her friend…I can call anyone in fashion. I can say ‘André Talley, come here’…I can say, ‘Hey, André Talley, come hang out with me,’ and he’ll do that…I can call Ralph Lauren, you know. I can go sit in Ralph’s office and put my feet on his desk and say ‘Ralph, I need a favor.’”
