Holiday Frock Spirit

holidaydressesok.jpg

It’s almost time for holiday soirées, office Christmas parties, and ringing in the New Year. Instead of pulling out the standard LBD, opt for taking in all the trends of the season and go for jeweled tones, open necklines, embellishments, shorter hem lines, or sequined accents. If you feel like you’re showing off too much, or your legs might get cold, then you can still be dressy while layering with leggings or tights (depending on the style of the dress of course). Don’t let the holiday decorations take away the spotlight–make sure you also deck the halls.

Doo-Ri Chung is graduating into the big leagues. The celebrated designer, not to mention past CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner, is having her first-ever sample sale December 3 to 4 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., where her fluid, elegantly draped creations that retail from around $200- $3,000 will be priced at up to 80 percent off. For foot fetishists, shoes, including those designed in collaboration with Gunmetal, will be up for sale as well. But in true individualistic style, Chung isn’t holding her gourmet garage sale at any old warehouse or rented storage unit. Rather, her wares will be on display at Unis at 226 Elizabeth Street, the predominantly men’s clothing shop owned and operated by her friend Eunice Lee.

Lia Sophia’s Glittering Guests!

lisasophiapartyok.jpg

If one goes by the mantra that friends support friends, then Dani Stahl likely has too many to count. The Nylon style director previewed her latest designs for Lia Sophia, dubbed the Petra collection, and the turnout was impressive to say the least. Eleanor Ylvisaker, Annie Churchill, Charlotte Ronson, Shoshanna Gruss, Rebekah McCabe, Alexis Bryan, and Marisa Noel Brown all gathered at Goldbar in NoLiTa Wednesday night to sip cocktails, fawn over each other’s jewelry—Lia Sophia, natch—and discuss upcoming Christmas plans. “I love necklaces that say ‘show me,’” said Gillian Hearst Simonds, who sported a long Lia Sophia necklace that she looped around her neck twice, as well as a chunky bracelet. “I keep looking at my watch like I have one,” laughed the newly married PYT, whose wedding to Christian Simonds will be featured in an upcoming issue of Quest.

Stahl, meanwhile, was fashionably late to her own shindig, arriving a few minutes after the 7 p.m. start time but dressed to the nines in a Calvin Klein Collection dress. “What can I say, I nearly had a nervous breakdown in the cab getting here,” she laughed, before directing her attention to the bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces favored by Diane Kruger, Kate Hudson, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dog, Katherine Heigl, and Bijou Phillips. “Don’t you just love the jewelry?” she purred. And for the record, Stahl didn’t seem to mind missing the nearby Calvin Klein-sponsored New Museum bash too much. Thanks to her friend Lauryn Flynn, who runs the fashion house’s celebrity division, a generous share of the evening’s starlets walked the red carpet in Francisco Costa’s gowns—but accessorized with her baubles.

Just in time for the holidays, Wimbledon, the world’s most prestigious sports venue, is launching a fine jewelry collection for the ultimate tennis fans. The “Wimbledon Collection” consists of necklaces, cufflinks, earrings, and fittingly, tennis bracelets. The signature W logo will no doubt prove to be a fashion accessory no power player will want to hit the courts without. The line will be available nationwide, with a portion of proceeds going to notable charities.

Earliest and Shiniest Save the Date of Fashion Week

gucciinviteok.jpg

Gucci is pulling out all the stops for its February 6 extravaganza during New York’s Fashion Week. That’s when the Italian fashion house will unveil its new Fifth Avenue flagship with an evening hosted by Gucci creative director and pop icon Madonna. And to make sure those invited understand that the night (aside from the fact that Gucci has pledged funds to benefit orphans and children affected by HIV/AIDS) is not one to be missed, save the dates, fashioned and packaged in elegant bronze envelopes, arrived in select mailboxes Thursday–nearly two-and-a-half months prior to the night. Like the coveted invite reads, it’s sure to be an evening not only to benefit Raising Malawi and UNICEF, but a night to remember.

Costume National Can Now Drink

costumenational21bookok.jpg
Though most choose to celebrate their 21st with drinks and debauchery, Ennio Capasa created a 246-page photographic journal of his career and design innovations. Renata Molho wrote the introduction, while photographs of Mick Jagger, Willem Dafoe, Cameron Diaz, and Liz Goldwyn taken by the likes of Peter Lindbergh, Terry Richardson, Juergen Teller, and Craig McDean grace the pages. As it comes out in December, it’s a great way to celebrate the holidays and the 21st birthday of Costume National.
