Quelque chose arrive. Last night, Chic spotted Glenda Bailey avec her entire fashion department (sans assistants, it appeared) hunkering down for din at Graydon’s joint. (Publisher Ed was seated before 6:30). The Bazaar rez was early-ish (7? 7:15? 7:30? At Monkey, who keeps track?), the convo…well, qui sait? Was it an idea meeting? A celebration of sorts? The Daily wonders…

The Milanese have been buzzing that former Dolce & Gabbana celebrity service honcho Ali Wise is heading to Zac Posen. Not so! Turns out the “Ali” that is now working with Zac is Alexandra “Ali” Smith, who was recently named director of public relations and celebrity and is reporting to Karen Duffy, vice president of communications. Smith, a veteran of fashion PR, most recently served as senior director of publicity and special projects at Armani Exchange; prior to that she worked at Donna Karan.

Meet the Austrian Iris

When Iris Strubegger opened the Marc Jacobs show back in Gotham, the entire industry took notice. Naturally we had to know more, so we caught up with beauty at Roberto Cavalli. “This is all so cool and new to me,” she smiled. “I’m from Salzburg in Austria, which is basically a mountain city. I struggled a bit with food when I moved to New York. But now I figured it all out and discovered Whole Foods. Now I cook for myself and make pretty good vegetables and rice.” Any other hobbies? ” Just being myself. I love being lazy and just enjoying nature.”

“You know in the 80s, there was all this money coming in from drug trafficking. There was so much money coming in so quickly, so there was all this excess—so for me, I was very much inspired by that time. Even the flat looks like bathroom tiles of a club.”-Alejandro Ingelmo

So You Think You Can Dance?

juan carlos obando

Juan Carlos Obando made a formidable tango partner last night at Barneys New York, where awestruck fashettes watched the Los Angeles-based dress designer indulge his fancy footwork. Was he channeling today’s Daily cover girl Reem Acra?

Christine…or Mariel?

Danielle Staub of Real Housewives of New Jersey fame may have earned more than her fair share of press from the Bravo show, but it looks like her lovely daughter might be about to steal the spotlight. We broke the news last week that Christine Staub has been signed by IMG Models, and now, the first snaps of the 15-year-old, shot by Adrian Nina, are up on the agency’s blog. Is it just us, or does the pretty youngster strikingly resemble Mariel Hemingway circa Manhattan?

Why Couldn’t Chic Report Be the Third Miller Sister??

© Patrick McMullan

Vogue UK’s latest in their divine lineup of guest bloggers is Savannah Miller (above), sister of Sienna and co-designer of their Twenty8Twelve line, and we’re loving the sneak peek into her daily life. From coffee and boiled eggs with Sienna to Georgina Goodman show shoes to a “post-apocalyptic mood board for autumn/winter pre-collection,” some of our favorite snippets from the day are below:

06:00
Get rudely awoken by my little girl throwing toys at me from her cot to get me out of bed. She is nearly one and still doesn’t understand how antisocial she is being. I’m still recovering from my best friend’s wedding on the weekend so it is not appreciated. Take one look at her cute little face and melt.

10:00 – 13:00
Fit spring/summer 2010 collection first protos. Some very exciting things in there and some horrors but a good dose of happy accidents too, which cheer us up. Sienna tries on the sheer organza jacket with last season’s Georgina Goodman show shoes and knocks our socks off. I start getting very excited about the show as it feels tangible now that the clothes are on gorgeous bodies.

15:30

Feeling this warrior vibe needs to translate in the collection somehow and start putting post-apocalyptic mood board together for autumn/winter pre-collection. Gets us really excited and I’m loving how this recession is forcing us all to look at things with clarity and directness. There’s no room for fluff and I like it.

19:00
Crash on the sofa with Sienna to eat her famous roast chicken and watch Masterchef re-runs…HEAVEN…

A Moment With…Jane Moore at the CFDA Awards

© Modelinia

When Daily darling Jim Moore told us that his mom Jane was making the trip from Minnesota to celebrate her son’s Eleanor Lambert Award, The Daily requested an interview. We caught up with Mme Moore Monday night during the dinner portion of the evening while Marc Jacobs, Narcisco Rodriguez and Justin Timberlake congratulated her son at Alice Tully Hall as the CFDA Awards wound to a close. (Wait–is that Michael Kors in the background?)

So Mrs. Moore, how did it feel to watch your son receive such an honor?
I had tears running down my cheeks. It was wonderful. I had no idea he was so well-liked! When he comes home, he never brags about anything, so I took it for granted that this was just a job. This really proved to be so wonderful, I’m so happy I’m here.
At what point in Jim’s life did you realize he was going to be successful?
When he was young, he airbrushed a huge picture of Margaux Hemingway. He was really interested in design. When he was in art school, he even designed some clothes. Back then, it was pretty hard to say goodbye and send him off to New York; it really was. But he had to follow his dreams, and I encouraged him–I said, “You have to go where all the action is.” And you know, the Midwest doesn’t have much fashion.
Has Jim ever given you fashion advice?
He’s kind of let me do my own thing. Actually, he will tell me if I’m wearing something I should be or shouldn’t be, but really, I can’t say that he’s ever said anything bad about what I was wearing. He’s a positive guy.

Oh, Daphne, Our Daphne!

Chic Report harbors a certain je ne sais quoi for Daphne Guinness, whose fashion never fails to enchant. Before, during and after last night’s CFDA Awards, she commanded all the attention with a series of rather artsy photographs for the wire services. Darling, you oughta be in pictures!
