Secret Sweets

vs angels

After the glittery madness that is the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, the revelry will rage on as friends fête the event at the after-party. There will be plenty of Angels hopped up on sugar and diving into the red velvet cupcakes by Baked by Melissa and Chicaholics sipping on Stoli Angel Elixir. Want to brew up the treat on your own? Try this ethereal recipe…

3 strawberries
Sprinkles of vanilla sugar
Rose sparkling dessert wine

Well Hung

Sometimes it’s hard to be a Chicaholic. One too many cocktails in the evening and the next day is an absolute wash. But in lieu of the typical parade of recovery drinks (coffee, Emergen-C, Diet Coke, water, etc. etc.) Code Blue is a one-shot solution that combines a bevy of benefits. Originally concocted by a former brand manager for Grey Goose (natch) and his fellow entrepreneurs, it delivers a super dose of electrolytes, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to your damaged system. The highly scientific ingredients like D-Ribose, Sustamine and N-Acetly-Cysteine boost energy recovery, promote muscle hydration and help remove those infamous free radicals from your bod. Throw in some milk thistle (strengthens liver), prickly pear extract (anti-inflammatory) and agave nectar (natural sweetener) and voila, you’re covered on all fronts–sans caffeine, no less. And while many “miracle” drinks are purely hype, rest assured that this is Chicaholic-tested and approved! Stock up now; your hangover will thank you.

Cheers to the Chow!

Chicaholic naturally showed up at the Mr. Chow 30th Anniversary fête last night—The Daily did host its own 5th anniversary celebration there a few seasons ago. And while many glasses of champers were consumed (and some trays unfortunately crashed to the floor as waiters valiantly tried to save them), the generous spirit of Michael and Eva Chow continues.  Devoted diners will be presented with a complimentary bottle of Laurent Perrier rosé champagne between November 4 through December 15 at its 57th Street location. So the question remains…are YOU on the list?

Napa Dreams

winery

The new luxe Merus Winery, a product of Amsterdam-based UXUS Design, sends us dreaming of warm California. A shrine to vino, the winery boasts cave-like cellars painted a haunting burgundy red in a contempo-rustic design aesthetic. If only we could transport ourselves to Napa Valley in just a snap(a) of our fingers. Alas, travel is a slightly more complicated process.

If You Like Pina Coladas…

Chicaholic’s never been a fan of the coconut concoctions so when the fizzy VIO beverages came out boasting a Tropical Colada flavor along with other variations (Peach Mango?), we were skeptical. They’re made from sparkling water, cane sugar…and a dash of rBGH-free skim milk? What sounded like a receipe for disaster is actually an easy way to relive those poolside summer sessions. A few sips and we were sold. So, what do they really taste like? The question spawned a whole segement on YouTube but it’s one of those drinks that you’ll just have to try. Experimental Chicaholics can spike it with their own chosen spirit and email us with suggestions.

Happy Wednesday!

You might feel a little guilty about craving a cocktail in the middle of the week, but not if the vodka is as eco-friendly as it gets. We’re talking about the strangely earth-loving Reyka Vodka from Iceland that’s naturally filtered through lava rock, and is produced in the world’s only distillery powered by geothermal energy. Here’s a cocktail that you’ll be sure to never regret!

My Cocktail Cares
1 1/2 oz Reyka
3/4 oz simple syrup
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
4 mint leaves
10 blueberries
Muddle blueberries with simple syrup, add other ingredients and shake well
Serve up in a martini glass
Garnish with a mint sprig

A Rooftop Revelry in Your Glass

Chicaholic is ecstatic that the summer weather hath finally arrived…and the city is taking to the rooftops! One of our favorite perches at the 60 Thompson Hotel (you do have your roof access card, non?) has brought back it’s Plum Wine Sangria after a seven year hiatus. Why you ask? Apparently the Croix Toriino plum wine comes from an ancient variety of green plums that you can only get via Kyoto. While a limited-edition harvest is procured each season, alas, the States warrants but a small ration. And the Thompson believes there is no substitute for Japan’s finest, so they blend it together with Svedka Clementine vodka, fresh fruit and serve it up for $12 a pop. But should you want to imbibe upon your own hot roof (and can track down the elusive wine) here’s how to host at home. Enjoy!

Plum Wine Sangria Recipe
Makes: 12 – 14 servings

Combine the following ingredients:

1 btl. Croix Torino Plum Wine

12 oz. Svedka Clementine

8 oz. Dry white wine

6 oz. Triple Sec

8 oz. pineapple juice

2 oz. lime juice

Chop fresh kiwi, pineapple, oranges into cubes and refrigerate for two hours. Serve over ice in a wine glass.

Belvie Gets Around

What’s the most clever way to launch a new spirit? Create a bag to go with, darlings. The Belvie Bag–inspired by Grammy winner Estelle–is the creation of British accessories designer Jonathan Kelsey to celebrate the introduction of yet another flavored vodka: Belvedere Black Raspberry. Kelsey used one of his signature techniques–dipping the white leather in a dark raspberry color (natch)–but its the secret bottle compartment that’s got Chicaholic hooked. And it seems the bag is becoming popular with the fashion set. Matthew Williamson and Philip Lim checked it out at the company’s private SoHo pop-up shop last week. Want your own? It’s available at select stores like Jeffrey–for a cool $1,500, that is.

Fancy a Drink?

You may think of cognac as the stuff of dandies or cigar-smoking gents, but if you love all things luxe (comme nous!), then we have the drink for you. The makers of LOUIS XIII Cognac have created a rare and limited edition decanter handcrafted by Baccarat, the LOUIS XIII Black Pearl, starting at the perfectly reasonable price of £18,000 (that’s just over $27,000). Pricey, peut-être, but if you buy a magnum of Louis XIII Black Pearl, you will receive a personal invitation from Pierrette Trichet, LOUIS XIII Cellar Master, to join her for a personalised tour and tasting in Cognac, France.
