Olivier Zahm was kind to put a preview of the new Chanel magazine (called 31 Rue Cambon) online and it’s looks pretty exciting–if you like Baptiste Giabiconi. Zahm worked on the issue with Karl Lagerfeld, and soon it will be distributed  in all Chanel stores worldwide.

Stefano Tonchi’s Freudian Slip

dasha sukova

Stefano Tonchi really enjoyed his time at the MoCA gala over the weekend and wrote a pleasant and informative blog post about the West Coast event. We learned about Vezzoli, Prada, Ballets Russes…and a certain Dasha Sukova. We assume Tonchi had “Zhukova” in mind–especially considering “Sukova” is a variation of a certain colorful Russian word that rhymes with “witch.” Does the New York Times cut back on researchers during the weekend? UPDATE: Researchers are back on; the post has been updated…

Must Read Gem: Art Ruby

ArtRuby

Unless you work in the heart of the gallery district, it’s completely normal to experience some sort of Basel anxiety and seek answers to the following questions: Which names should I know? Who’s making the big moves? Who broke records at auction houses this season? Thankfully, along comes Art Ruby, a timely and intelligently edited new site conceived by Olga Rei. “Art Ruby is basically a one-stop daily carnival for everything that’s happening in the art world,” says the creator. “I  want all the readers to enjoy the content, learn something new, and not feel intimidated to by the insider exhibits or obscure sensations.” To make it easy for all of us, Art Ruby is an easy to navigate bulletin that generously offers up most relevant photos and links from around the world, as well as a blog called Art Box that’s mainly generated by the big industry name contributors. Richard Philips became one of the first famous pens last week. “Eventually I want to create a community in which all the readers inspire each other with their finds,” says Rei. “Anyone can contribute and feel like a big time curator. I think democracy and art are two inseparable notions.”

Delve Inside the Lacroix Mind

Lacroix

“This baroque approach to everything in my life is also a way of avoiding boredom. It was my strength. It’s been more than 23 years now that I am well-known for such an unusual spirit. But it certainly has been a kind of weakness, also; since it’s not a behavior shared by many people.”—Christian Lacroix discusses his ingenious ways of battling boredom. Read more of Filep Motwary’s juicy and extensive interview with Christian Lacroix on Un Nouveau Ideal. The designer talks about his “unusual spirit,” his childhood and why couture “doesn’t breath so easily anymore.” Quickly, read on!

Meet Emma Watson’s Male Counterpart

douglas booth burberry

Chris Bailey says he’s going to be a huge star–and who are we to argue? Seventeen-year-old Douglas Booth appears opposite Emma Watson in the latest Burberry campaign (”Being a Burberry boy, you get looked after very well,” he says), but expect more than just glossy appearances for this Brit. The model shares a rep with Robert Pattinson and Dev Patel and is currently working on projects by the likes of Julian Fellowes and Tony and Ridley Scott. But don’t expect this babyface to get too big gof his britches just yet. “If someone came along and said, ‘Take this pill and you’ll be as famous as Robert Pattinson,’ I wouldn’t say no, but I’d think about it first,” he told London’s Evening Standard. “It’s a lovely place to be but it’s also scary.”

The Daily Wonders…

bazaar ed letter

Why does Harper’s Bazaar have the equivalent of two nearly-identical ed letters? The first page of the November issue, “Welcome to the Issue,” is simply an unsigned block of text framed in an Oscar necklace. (”In fashion, you need a sense of humor. And no one has that more than Tina Fey does (page 226). She inspires us and makes us laugh too.”) Immediately following is the offiicial “editor’s letter”, signed by Glenda, which consists of a text box framed in (yes!) a Kate Spade necklace. (“This past summer, I was joined at the couture collections in Paris by 16-year-old Alison Hutchinson. It was great to hear her fresh and insightful perspective on the clothes.”) Perhaps Bazaar is not suffering from the lack of editorial pages (thanks to the ad market) plaguing so many other fashion books?

Kloss Overkill?

karlie kloss vogue

We love you, Karlie. We really do. But maybe Vogue worked you just a tiny bit too hard this month? Chic Report counted 23 images of the model in October’s issue, including ads and table of contents repeats. Multiple spreads, multiple features, and hardly another model to be found…
