Chic CFDA Countdown: Justin Giunta

justinguintacfda.jpg

As we close out week une in our chicer-than-chic prelude to the CFDA awards, we offer you Justin Giunta, the designer behind Subversive Jewelry who randomly makes hand-painted scarves that would put Hermès to shame. No doubt he will send us some after he sees this lovely homage.

Where were you when you found out?
In my office making jewelry. A very typical scenario. Stephen [Kolb] called and said please be here tonight and I was like, OK!

How did you celebrate?
Back to work as usual! We have a reason to celebrate every day.

You’ve had an amazing year so far with your Ecco Domani award, the Target collection, and now this.
We’ve had a lot of great things happen, so we try to stay on the ball. Can’t do too much drinking!

Who are you taking to the party?
I haven’t decided yet.

What are your larger goals for company?
Bigger, more, better. Is that how the phrase goes? Just to grow and expand with as much integrity as possible. Keep a small aesthetic on a bigger scale.

Where do you want to be in 10 years?
Alive!

Vibrate Away the Pounds?

station-1.jpg

The concept of Power Plates sounds too good to be true. Thirty minutes spent on this vibrating machine equals an hour and a half of a normal cardio workout and banishes cellulite? Really? So we sat down with Andrew Barile of Station NYC–on medicine balls, no less!–to get the scoop.

What’s the benefit of Power Plates?
The learning time is about two to three times. And most people can’t spend an hour and a half at the gym so for every half hour it’s equal to an hour and a half in the gym. In two to four weeks, people are really happy. Beauty is everything for some people. The vibration combined with the increased blood flow decreases cellulite. It’s working from head to toe.

How does it work?
It’s very traditional–with sit-ups, squats. We use the straps for working the biceps. Whenever you’re in contact with the plate you do a lot of yoga or Pilates moves. If your body is touching the machine, you’ll absorb the vibrations. We had one guy who came in two weeks ago and said, “I fit into my Dior jacket for the first time in 5 years!”

Have a Very Happy Taurus Birthday!

costabullhorns.jpg

Tomorrow is Francisco Costa’s birthday and he couldn’t be prouder of being a bull! “I’m so Taurus, you would not even believe, “ he says in this month’s issue of Interview. “All the Tauruses that I know have connection to the earth and the environment. We’re very curious people, very loyal, very aware and respectful of our surroundings. Also, we’re stubborn, but that’s our way. We understand what we want, which is not bad.”
